Catholic Family Development Centre - a non-denominational family service agency, serving the Thunder Bay community.  Dedicated to strengthening and empowering families and individuals through a high quality service within a respectful, caring environment.

Thunder Bay Counseling Centre - for family counseling, financial counseling, workshops, training, EAP (Employee Assistance Program)and other programs.

Thunder Bay Indian Friendship Centre - for Aboriginal support in the community and related information. 807-345-5840

Lakehead Social Planning Council - for Community Resource listings in the Thunder Bay area.

Shelter Houseprovides short-term relief to those in need of shelter, food, and clothing and advocates to access resources to support their transition.

Faye Peterson - Transitional support, temporary housing, safety planning for domestic violence, crisis services, counseling, outreach, advocacy, early childhood education, and support groups to women, youth and their children.

NorWest Community Health Centre - Health Sciences North the regional academic health sciences network in Northwestern Ontario, provides an array of health professional education programs and services to prepare and retain health professionals for practice in and for northern and isolated communities.

Court Preparation Assistance - supporting youths/ individuals going through the Criminal Justice System.

Children's Centre Thunder Bay - This centre provides mental health and support services to troubled children, adolescents and their families.

Thunder Bay Multicultural Association - offers 24 hour access to interpreters in over 40 different languages. For more information, or to book an appointment with an interpreter, phone 345-0551. Call toll-free at 1-866-831-1144. This agency also translates documents (fee charged).

Victim Witness Assistance Program (VWAP) – provides information, assistance and support to victims and witnesses of crime throughout the criminal justice process in order to increase their understanding of, and participation in, the criminal justice process. Offered by the Ontario Victim Services Secretariat, VWAP services include crisis intervention, needs assessment, referrals to community agencies, emotional support, case specific information (court dates, bail conditions) and court preparation and orientation.

VWAP services are available to adult and child victims and witnesses of crime, after charges have been laid. Closely associated with the domestic violence court program, VWAP staff work extensively but not exclusively with victims/witnesses of partner assault, sexual assault and child abuse.  For general inquiries contact the Thunder Bay office at 625-1627

Thunder Bay District Health Unit In response to the health needs of the community, we:

Family Services Thunder Bay - provide confidential Counseling, advocacy, education and support for individuals, families and employers since 1967.

Canadian Mental Health Association, Thunder Bay Branch – dedicated to promoting, maintaining and enhancing the mental wellness of individuals, families and the community, through the provision or coordination of public education, peer support and individual advocacy, and access to community-based adult mental health care programs and other supportive services.  Check out the website to find out more information on the many different programs offered.

Thunder Bay Crisis Response Service – Community based crisis response support program for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.  The goal is to help people in distress overcome their crisis in the community. Call 346-8282 or  Toll free 1-888-269-3100 for Thunder Bay District.

Thunder Bay Police - 684-1200 or emergency 911

Victim Assistance Unit – through the Thunder Bay Police Service, this unit addresses the needs of victims by offering support information and referral.  Some services are: Support and reassurance, court accompaniment, liaison with Police; Crown Attorney and Crime Victim’s Family Assistance.  Contact 684-1290.

 

Children's Aid Society - At the Children's Aid Society of the District of Thunder Bay, we work with:

    ° children and adolescents who are or may be at risk

    ° children, adolescents and young adults entrusted to our care

    ° families and caregivers of these children, adolescents and young adults

    ° children, adolescents and adults who  were involved in the adoption process

    ° individuals who were in our care

MADD Thunder Bay - provides support information and resources available to assist victims injured as a result of impaired driving including support groups.
