Donations:
As this is a non-profit organization, all
donations are gratefully accepted.
We have several easy ways for you to donate
to our organization.
For a monetary donation, a charitable
tax receipt will be issued for the full value of the donation (cash or
cheque). All cheques name "Thunder Bay and Area Victim Services"
as payee. All monies donated are directed toward volunteer and victim
support. This includes training costs and items that assist volunteers
in providing victim support. If you have any further questions, please
do not hesitate to contact our office: (807) 684-1051.
Please ensure that your
full name and address (including postal code) are enclosed for tax receipt purposes.

Pager
Sponsorship:
Support a volunteer directly by sponsoring a
pager for one year.
What is a pager used for?
Our volunteers carry pagers while on call.
This is shown to be the most effective method of contacting our volunteers.
We have a 30 minute response time to a victim via police referral, therefore
we use pagers to reach our volunteers quickly and efficiently.
Why sponsor a pager?
Due to agency budget restrictions, pager
costs, and logistics our volunteers have to share pagers. Sharing
pagers can be somewhat inconvenient. Your sponsorship would assist
these volunteers in not having to share pagers and be more readily available
for support to victims at short notice. Your sponsorship will help
reduce the expense and time to the volunteer by means of lower fuel costs to
swap pagers and reducing volunteer hours not utilized directly to support
victims.
How do I sponsor a pager?
Through the assistance of our Program
Assistant, a donor would the pay the initial purchase price and monthly
usage charges of a pager for one year (typically a lump-sum payment from the
donor) or support a pager currently in use by paying the monthly usage
charges for one year. Under this agreement, we would issue an
annual charitable tax receipt for the full annual amount of purchase and
monthly service fees. Please contact the Program Assistant at 684-1051
for further information.
Donate your old, unwanted cell
phone:
Why donate cell phones?
We provide cell phones to victims of domestic
violence. This allows the victims to connect 911 services in times of
crisis. These cell phones can only connect to 911 and have been found
to be an effective safety measure while providing a sense of security to a
victim. The user will keep the cell phone for as long as needed. There
is no commitment to return the cell phone to the agency. However, we
have found that once the victim no longer requires the phone, they do return
it for others in need.
How do I donate a cell phone?
Be sure you have deleted all programmed
information such as phone numbers, scheduled appointments, sent and received
phone numbers and calls, etc. In other words clear out your history.
Ensure you have the battery and the charger. Place all items sealed or plastic bag. Bring into the Police Station on Balmoral and
give the bag to the receptionist at the front desk. Inform reception
that this is being donated to VCARS.
The receptionist will pass that phone on to us.
Shoppers Optimum Points:
A simple and unique way to support our organization... made available by Shoppers Drug Mart through the Shoppers
Optimum Program. By donating some (or all) of your Shoppers Optimum
Points to our organization, you enable us to use your points at Shoppers
Drug Mart toward the purchase of products and supplies we need for our
volunteer kitbags (e.g. protective gloves, hand wash, activity books and
crayons for kids, etc).
To donate your
Shoppers Optimum Points please go online to:
http://www.shoppersdrugmart.ca/english/donate and
browse the Shoppers Optimum section. Click on "donate points".
If you are not presently a Shoppers Optimum Member, next time you are in a
Shoppers Drug Mart ask for a card (issued to you, on the spot, at no cost).
With your support, this initiative has the potential for us to "optimize"
our fundraising dollars through this unique program.
